A virologist models viral load growth as exponential: starting with 500 virions, doubling every 4 hours. After 24 hours, a drug reduces viral replication by 90%. How many virions are present 4 hours after drug administration, assuming no clearance?
Assuming no replication after drug: virions remain at 32,000. After 4 hours, still <<32000>>32,000 (no growth).
A statistician analyzes a sample of 800 genes. Her new method identifies 64 significant genes, representing 8% of the total. If the method improves specificity such that 15% of false positives are avoided, and original false discovery rate was 20%, how many fewer false positives are detected?
A virologist studies a drug that inhibits viral entry in 70% of host cells. In a culture of 15,000 cells, each infected cell normally spreads to 5 others. With the drug, infected cells spread to only 2 others. What is the total number of new infections caused by all infected cells after drug application?
A statistician applies a transformation to normalize skewed data, reducing skewness by 40% from an initial value of 2.5. If the transformed variable is then scaled by a factor of 1.2, what is the final skewness value?
#### 1.8A museum curator is digitizing a collection of 1,200 historical scientific instruments. She has already cataloged 30% of them using virtual reality technology, and an additional 250 were processed using 3D scanning. If she plans to complete the digitization by scanning the remaining instruments, how many instruments still need to be processed?
An additional 250 were scanned using 3D technology.
Total processed so far: 360 + 250 = <<360+250=610>>610 instruments.
Remaining instruments: 1,200 - 610 = <<1200-610=590>>590.
A biodiversity data analyst is verifying species records from 450 field surveys. She confirmed 60% of the surveys during the first phase. In the second phase, she reviewed 120 more surveys and corrected errors in 85% of them. How many surveys remain unverified after both phases?
